Step 4 - 2023 Execute
This was removed from the channels and deposited by the park. It remains there as a reminder of the waste. This should have been backfilled for erosion mitigation measures as the '22 Board and WLB planned.
Wasting $10s of thousands of dollars yearly cleaning channels and removing sediment instead of backfilling on the spot as the '22 Board, Santa Rita Landscaping, and WLB planned.
The board is discussing what it has decided to do with erosion mitigation.
Everything is a priority again.
Here's what you missed.
Option 1: WLB made a recommendation to the 2022 Board on December 20, 2022, with Priority Zones 1 and 2 (as shown below).
Mitigation strategies will be tested, monitored, and validated for future course of action.
Otherwise, we will change our approach.
Option 2: The 2025 board disregarded the original WLB plan (Priority Zones 1 and 2) and allocated more funds to dictate how WLB should prioritize areas and mitigation approaches for all 27 Areas. While WLB does not oppose the approach, WLB is not leading with best practices.
Well... Which is it, option 1 or option 2?

It was discovered that the board has already started working on erosion mitigation projects with the landscapers without informing the community of the plan and its cost. Our landscapers are not trained to execute this work.

Furthermore, the board is instructing the engineering company on what it wants to do and soliciting the engineering firm's opinion. It should be the other way around. Otherwise, why did we hire them?
Board Keeping Members in the Dark - About Erosion Mitigation
2025 Board Issued No-Bid, Billed per person/per hour Contract to Landscapers for Erosion Mitigation Projects
In essence, the board is spending money on major vs minor annual cleanup and band-aid projects near the channels (bottom), instead of addressing the issue from the top down.
Nothing was done according to the plan that we received from the engineering company. The 2025 Board informed the engineering company of our plans. They asked for their opinions on our current board's plans. (No salesperson will say no to a customer.)
Start from the top by replacing the failed natural swale with shotcrete channels (not rocks, which will allow runoff water to continue creating headcuts and erosion) with a single or multiple channels based on the volume of water and the height of the hill. We should also replace some of the failed wattles. This will resolve the issues in areas 1 & 2 if done by professionals, NOT LANDSCAPERS.
